Medicine Overview OF Metoprolol
Metoprolol is a beta-adrenergic blocker used in hypertension, angina, acute myocardial infarction, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, congestive heart failure, and prevention of migraine headaches.
When to use
Hypertension, angina pectoris, adjunct in hyperthyroidism, migraine prophylaxis, stable symptomatic heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, prevention or control of arrhythmias on induction of anesthesia, adjunct in the early management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI)
How It Works
Metoprolol blocks ß1 adrenergic receptors of cardiomyocytes, reduces Na+ (sodium) uptake and slows down K+ (potassium) release. It also suppresses the norepinephrine-induced increase in the Ca+ (calcium) leak and the spontaneous Ca+ release, which are the major triggers for atrial fibrillation.
Medicine Overview OF Telmisartan
Telmisartan an angiotensin II receptor blocker indicated in the treatment of hypertension
When to use
Hypertension
How It Works
Telmisartan is a angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It exerts antihypertensive activity by preventing angiotensin II from binding to angiotensin II receptor type 1, thus inhibiting the vasoconstricting and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II.
